Description
The VMT3a is a maternity box for colonies of building-dwelling bats, especially the common and rough-skinned pipistrelles, and features a backplate. This also allows it to be mounted on smooth walls and trees. The updated design makes it easy to connect boxes together, on a straight wall or around a corner.
- Backplate that extends a few centimetres below the box, allowing bats to land and climb inside
- Three 2.5 cm compartments, accessible via a slanted entry board inside the box
- Can be connected with a straight connector (VMT3aK) or corner piece (VMT3aH)
- Multiplex (FSC) with grip mortar
Tip: place the maternity box in a sunny spot; combine multiple boxes for a larger colony.
Placement
Place the box at a minimum height of 3 metres, preferably as high and sunny as possible, just below an eaves, and not close to a window or lamppost. Hang it near an existing flight path. As a guideline for compensation or mitigation, hang 4 replacement roosts for every roost that is being lost.
