Description
The VMT3 is a maternity box for colonies of building-dwelling bats, particularly common and rough-skinned pipistrelles. It is an open-backed box that you mount on an exterior wall like a tray; the bats climb inside via the rough facade. The updated design allows you to easily connect boxes together on a straight wall or around a corner.
- Three 2.5 cm compartments, accessible via a sloped entry board inside the box
- Multi-layer design for the stable, high temperatures required by maternity colonies
- Can be connected with a straight connector (VMT3K) or corner piece (VMT3H)
- Multiplex (FSC) with grip mortar, including foam strip for a good fit against the wall
Tip: place the maternity box in a sunny spot; combine multiple boxes for a larger colony.
Placement
Place the box at a minimum height of 3 metres, preferably as high and sunny as possible, just below a roof edge and not close to a window or lamppost. Hang it near an existing flight path. As a guideline for compensation or mitigation, hang 4 replacement boxes for every roost being lost.
